I live in Lisbon, and I love the traditional Portuguese tiles, or azulejos. They adorn building facades and entryways all over the country in infinite styles and combinations. I’ve loved creating my own versions with thread. This is the third pattern in my Portuguese tile design series. This blue and white pattern with pops of yellow tulip flowers is so emblematic of the traditional style. I love this hoop as a way to commemorate a special trip, honeymoon, or retirement destination whether for yourself or a lucky gift recipient.

This modern embroidery pattern is meditative, straightforward, and satisfying. It uses only a few basic stitches to great effect, and so is beginner friendly. I provide suggested DMC thread colors plus stitch suggestions, but I encourage you to be creative and choose your own!
